General

To be able to sign your documents online, you must install the Dioss Smartware component. Your browser will inform you with the message below if you have not installed it yet :

To install the Smartware component, click on "Download". Your browser will ask you to install this after the download. If this is not the case, double-click on the download file and follow the instructions for installation.

After the installation you will see an icon on your taskbar (Windows) or on your menu bar (Apple) which indicates that the "eID middleware" component is active:

  • Red icon: There is no eID card reader linked to your pc.
  • Gray icon: An eID card reader has been detected.
  • Green icon: There is an eID card in the reader and you are ready to sign a document.

With this function, you can save your documents and recall them when you have more time or the necessary information at hand to complete or sign them. Your documents will remain available for 14 days. After 14 days, your request will be removed and you will have to start from scratch.

The substantive information on your Belgian identity card is only used to identify you at the time of signature. Only your name and your first name are visible on the documents to be signed. All the details from your file, or that you have filled in online on the forms, are kept at Helan.

The electronic signature is used to identify you. You now have the possibility to sign immediately, without having to go your health insurance fund or printing the documents to sign them with a pen.

The microchip of your electronic ID card contains personal details. Certain details are immediately readable, because they are printed on the eID card. To be able to see other details, you need to have a special card reader. Your address, which is on the microchip, is therefore only readable with an appropriate card reader.

You can easily purchase a card reader at a reasonable price in most stores. You connect the reader, which is directly compatible via usb, to your computer and you are ready to sign your transactions online with your Belgian identity card.

Yes, documents with an electronic signature have the same probative value as a document that has been signed by hand.

No, although it is possible to fill in a document with your tablet or smartphone, you can only create an electronic signature from a pc. Once you have started on your tablet or smartphone, you can always do a save in order to complete the procedure later and then sign the document on your pc.

The SmartWare component of Dioss works independently from the one that is used by Tax-On-Web. You can use both at the same time on the same computer.

Helan uses the SmartWare component of our partner Dioss. This is compatible with the most recent browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Edge) and is known for being completely safe and very reliable. It is, however, very easy to install.

Error messages & problems

Remove your identity card from the reader, wait for a moment and then put the card back again into the reader.

Should the problem persist, contact our partner Dioss.

If you forget your PIN code or if your card is blocked after a wrong code has been inputted 3 times, you can only obtain a new PIN code by contacting the commune.

Download the latest version of the software to read your card. Might solve the problem: link your card reader to your computer before you start up the browser. Also make sure that all the other windows are closed.

Privacy & protection

Yes, because a card reader does not give any access to personal information that is necessary for online applications. The certificates and your PIN code are necessary for online transactions such as a signature. They form irrefutable proof of your identity and link your identity to the card. The certificates and keys also confirm, combined with your PIN code, the authenticity of your electronic signature.

Only the person who is in possession of your identity card and your PIN code, and a card reader that can read these personal details.
